Gordon tower is a 100-foot Aermotor, likely an MC-39 model. Originally built in August 1935 in the SWSE, Section 36, T.44N.-R.12W. at an elevation of 736' it was moved to its current location at an unknown date. Gordon features a US Forest Service-style stairway and at some point its stair treads and landings were upgraded to expanded steel rather than wood. Gordon tower was staffed intermittently during spring fire season until 2015 when Wisconsin decommissioned its lookout network.
Douglas County has been working with a Friends of the Bird Sanctuary organization to preserve the tower since it was deactivated by the state.
